Personal portable terminal automatically recognizing its battery charging time and method
The present invention relates to a personal portable terminal, and more particularly, to a method for recognizing a replacement time of a battery installed in a personal portable terminal and a personal portable terminal on which the method is implemented.
In general, a personal computer is a term referring to a low-cost computer system that is developed for one user and made easy to use for personal office work, education, and entertainment. Personal computers include desktop computers that are placed on desks according to their size, portable laptop computers that travelers can use anywhere on their laps, and thin and small laptops that can be carried in a briefcase. (note book) computers, palm top computers that are smaller enough to be used on the palm of your hand. On the other hand, a handheld personal computer (HPC) is a palm-sized computer in which Windows CE is adopted as an operating system. In addition, a personal digital assistant (PDA) is a device for inputting information while being carried by a user. The personal digital assistant (PDA) refers to a terminal that operates using a battery and processes information at a remote location using wireless communication. The personal portable terminal referred to in the present invention is used in a comprehensive sense including both the portable computer and the personal information terminal.
In general, a personal portable terminal should be able to check the time of battery replacement in order to manage information on a battery equipped with an operating system. Accordingly, the personal portable terminal according to the related art installs a separate battery replacement confirmation switch in the battery cover as shown in FIG. 1. Accordingly, the battery replacement confirmation switch is turned off when the battery cover is closed, and the battery replacement confirmation switch is turned on when the battery cover is open. As a result, the operating system of the personal portable terminal according to the related art recognizes that the battery is replaced when the battery replacement confirmation switch is turned on and off.
However, according to the conventional technology, it is necessary to install additional hardware for the battery replacement confirmation switch. In addition, mechanical switching can occur even when the battery is not replaced, so the operating system cannot maintain accurate battery replacement information. That is, the operating system of the personal portable terminal according to the related art may recognize that the battery is replaced by an open or external shock regardless of the user's intention to replace the battery.

If it is different from the existing type of stored battery is characterized in that it comprises a battery replacement recognition unit for recognizing that there is a replacement of the mounted battery.
In order to achieve the above object, the battery replacement recognition unit of the personal portable terminal for recognizing the battery replacement time according to the present invention in a personal portable terminal powered by a rechargeable battery or an alkaline battery, the charge control value is a predetermined voltage value If it is above, it is recognized that the type of the mounted battery is a rechargeable battery, and if it is smaller than a predetermined voltage value, the type of mounted battery is recognized as an alkaline battery.
In order to achieve the above another object, the battery has a charge / discharge anode end and a charge / discharge anode end for mounting a rechargeable battery according to the present invention and an alkaline battery anode end and an alkaline battery anode end for mounting an alkaline battery A method of recognizing a replacement time of a battery installed in a personal portable terminal includes digitally converting a voltage of the positive electrode end of the alkaline battery into a battery remaining value and digitally converting the voltage of the charge / discharge end into a charge control value at predetermined intervals. ; When the charge control value is greater than or equal to a predetermined voltage value, the type of the installed battery is recognized as a rechargeable battery. If the charging control value is smaller than the predetermined voltage value, the type of installed battery is recognized as an alkaline battery. step; Recognizing that there is a replacement of the mounted battery if the type of the determined battery is different from the type of the existing battery stored separately; And comparing the remaining battery value with a previously stored remaining battery value and recognizing that there is a replacement of the mounted battery when the variation value is greater than a predetermined variation value.
Hereinafter, the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.
A battery for supplying power to a personal portable terminal according to the present invention includes a rechargeable battery shown in FIG. 2A and an alkaline battery shown in FIG. 2B.
According to FIG. 3, the battery insertion slot 30, the first analog / digital converter 32, the second analog / digital converter 34, and the storage means 36 of the personal portable terminal recognizing the battery replacement time according to the present invention. And a battery replacement recognition unit 38.
The battery insertion hole 30 is a charge / discharge anode end 30a and a charge / discharge anode end 30b for mounting a rechargeable battery as shown in FIG. 2A and an alkaline battery for mounting an alkaline battery as shown in FIG. 2B. A positive electrode end 30c and an alkaline battery negative electrode end 30d are provided.
The first analog-to-digital converter 32 is wired to the alkaline battery positive terminal 30c of the battery insertion port 30, and digitally converts the voltage at the alkaline battery positive electrode terminal 30c as a battery remaining value every predetermined period.
The second analog / digital converter 34 is wired to the charge / discharge anode terminal 30a of the battery insertion port 30 and digitally converts the voltage of the charge / discharge anode terminal 30a as a charge control value at predetermined cycles. .
The storage means 36 stores the battery remaining value and the charge control value from the first analog / digital converter 32 and the second analog / digital converter 34, which are preferably constituted by registers.
The battery replacement recognition unit 38 compares the remaining battery value stored in the storage means 36 with the existing remaining battery value stored separately, and the variation value is larger than the predetermined variation value, or the charge control stored in the storage means 36. If the type of the installed battery determined by the value is different from the type of the existing battery stored separately, it is recognized that there is a replacement of the mounted battery. In one embodiment of the present invention, the battery replacement recognition unit 36 recognizes that the type of the installed battery is a rechargeable battery when the charge control value is greater than or equal to a predetermined voltage value, and when the type of the installed battery is less than the predetermined voltage value. It is implemented to recognize that it is an alkaline battery. In the present invention, the battery replacement recognition unit 38 may be implemented as part of the operating system of the personal portable terminal such as Windows CE or other forms of software.

A process of recognizing when to replace the battery will be described.
According to FIG. 4, first, at predetermined cycles, the voltage at the positive electrode end of the alkaline battery is digitally converted as the remaining battery value, and the voltage at the charging / discharging end is digitally converted as the charging control value, respectively, to determine the current battery remaining value and the current charging control value. Save it as (400 steps). At this time, the new value calculated every cycle replaces the previously stored value.
Next, the type of battery currently installed in the personal mobile terminal is determined using the stored current charge control value (step 410). That is, if the current charge control value is greater than or equal to a predetermined voltage value, the type of battery installed is recognized as a rechargeable battery, and if less than the predetermined voltage value, the type of battery installed is determined to be an alkaline battery. The determined battery type is compared with an existing battery type that is already stored as the current battery type (step 420). If the type of the determined battery is different from the type of the existing battery stored separately, it is recognized that there is a replacement of the mounted battery (step 440).
On the other hand, if the type of the determined battery is the same as the type of the existing battery stored separately compared to the stored current battery remaining value of the existing battery remaining value stored separately (step 430), if the variation is greater than the predetermined variation value It is recognized that there is a replacement of the mounted battery (step 440).
Thereafter, the current battery type is stored as an existing battery type, and the current battery remaining value is stored as an existing battery remaining value and used in the next comparison (step 450).
According to the present invention, the battery replacement time can be recognized using separate software and existing hardware without further installing additional hardware on the battery cover of the personal portable terminal. In addition, according to the present invention, unlike the conventional method, the battery cover is opened or the battery is not recognized as being replaced by an external shock regardless of the intention to replace the battery, thereby making it more reliable.
